For some women, breast asymmetry can be a noticeable issue that can significantly impact their comfort with their own appearance. While no one has perfectly symmetrical breasts, the unevenness is subtle in most cases. However, in some cases, the issues can be significant enough that surgical correction can be performed to address the issue.

Kinds of breast Asymmetry

Breast asymmetry can be of different types. A pair of breasts can be unmatched in the context of the position size of the nipple. They can also be asymmetrical in terms of shape and size. In a few cases, breast asymmetry can be evident in respect of all three issues described above.

Surgically Fixing Asymmetrical Breasts

Some women might experience low confidence and discomfort even with a moderate amount of asymmetry. It is quite possible to surgically fix uneven breasts. There are different surgical procedures to change the shape and size of the breasts. The three most common procedures are breast lift, breast augmentation, and breast reduction. Dr. Norris can analyze the extent of your breast asymmetry and let you know which procedure is the most appropriate in your case.

Breast Lift

Mastopexy is the technical name for a breast lift. It involves changing the shape of your breasts by removing excess skin and adjusting breast tissue to reshape and raise your breasts. This procedure is useful when your breasts sag and the nipples are positioned downwards.

A breast lift can be performed in combination with breast reduction and breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation

This surgical procedure changes the shape of the breasts and enlarges them. The procedure involves placing implants into the breasts. The size and shape of the implant can be customized based on your aesthetic needs. The implant is either a silicone material or sterile saline-filled casing

Breast Reduction

A breast reduction surgery involves the removal of tissue, fat, and skin from your breasts. This procedure is most suited to those that have a breast that is noticeably larger than the other or who desire symmetrical breasts that have a smaller overall size.
Most women are satisfied with the results of breast reduction surgery. This surgery is also beneficial to men with enlarged breasts disproportionate to the body. The medical name of this condition is gynecomastia.

Recovery Time

The length of the recovery period will vary based on the type of procedure performed and other factors. women begin to feel perfectly fine after about a week and can resume most normal activities except for physically demanding activities. Prior to the procedure, your plastic surgeon will give you a recovery timeline.

The first three to five days can be painful and uncomfortable. Your surgeon will prescribe medications to address these issues. After the first week, the pain is minimal and most women begin to perform their daily chores. It is advised that you to refrain from strenuous physical activities. Labor-intense jobs should be avoided for the first three weeks. After about 6 to 8 weeks most patients return to a fully normal life, as they may be completely healed.
