Personalizing Your Breast Augmentation

There are various aspects of the breast augmentation procedure that can be customized to provide the patients with results that satisfy their aesthetic needs. Implant options include saline breast implants, silicone breast implants, and cohesive gel implants. There are also different options for the location of the incisions as well as whether the implant will be placed above or underneath the muscle. Dr. Norris will work with you to achieve your cosmetic breast enhancement goals, taking into account your unique skin characteristics and anatomy, as well as your preferences with regard to implant size, material and placement.

The Procedure for Breast Augmentation in Houston TX

During your breast augmentation, you will be placed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Norris will make incisions in one of the four following agreed upon locations:

  • Inframammary – along each breast fold
  • Periareolar – around each areola (saline implants only)

Your breast implants may be placed either above, below or partially below your chest muscles depending on your preference and the amount of natural breast tissue already in place.

If, in addition to enlarging your breasts, you also wish to correct sagging or improve your nipple position Dr. Norris may recommend a breast lift along with implants.

Recovering From Breast Augmentation in Houston

Most patients require 3-5 days off work to recover from breast augmentation, however 2-3 weeks of downtime may be needed for patients who have physically strenuous jobs.

Oral pain medication may be needed for a few days following surgery, and patients who have their implants placed subglandularly (above the chest muscles) usually experience less discomfort than patients who have their implants placed submuscularly (below the chest muscles). The trade-off is that submuscular implant placement often results in a more natural look and decreases the likelihood that noticeable implant rippling will occur.

It is important to wait at least three weeks before resuming strenuous exercise and breast augmentation patients should not lift anything heavier than 10 lbs. for at least 1-2 weeks. Dr. Norris will provide you with customized post-operative instructions to help you achieve the best possible breast augmentation results and monitor your healing during follow-up visits.

Is Breast Augmentation the Right Choice for Me?

Breast augmentation is the ideal choice for women who want larger breasts. If you want to improve the shape of your breasts or address sagging, a breast lift may be the better option. During your consultation, Dr. Norris will ask you what your goals are for your breast enhancement surgery. Dr. Norris can use this information to let you know if a breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination breast lift with augmentation is the right choice for you.

Breast Augmentation Cost

Each breast augmentation is customized based on the aesthetic goals of the patient. The cost will be based on the type of breast implant used, the techniques used to perform the procedure, and other factors. During your consultation at Norris Plastic Surgery, our team can answer any question you may have about the cost of your breast augmentation in Houston.

  • Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation?
Women elect breast augmentation for a variety of reasons. Some feel their current breast size is disproportionate to their actual body size, while others have lost a significant amount of weight resulting in a loss of breast fullness or firmness. Ideal candidates for breast augmentation come in all shapes and sizes, but should possess good overall mental and physical health.
  • What size implant should I choose?
It may be difficult to determine which size is best for you based on cup size alone. The same size implant on one woman may look entirely different on you. Your surgeon will help you determine which size is best for you based on your body type and the amount of breast tissue you have.
  • What is the difference between silicone and saline breast implants?
Breast implants are filled with one of two substances: silicone or saline. Silicone implants are pre-filled with a silicone gel that mimics the feel of human fat. Saline implants are filled with a salt water solution, usually during the surgical process. Silicone and saline implants pose similar risks, but may differ slightly in aesthetic outcome.
  • How will breast augmentation affect future mammograms?
Mammograms can be performed safely on women who have undergone breast augmentation. Just make sure to inform your mammogram technician prior to your mammogram. Your technician may require additional views during the screening process.
  • What are some of the risks associated with breast augmentation?
As with any procedure, there are risks involved in breast augmentation. Complications with breast augmentation are rare and most women are satisfied with their results. Complications may include bleeding, infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia, scarring or asymmetry.
